Job Description

Website Designer

Our client is a small but fast-growing digital agency helping ambitious SMEs scale through smart, data-led marketing. Their work spans paid media, SEO, website design and development, email marketing, content, creative and digital strategy, with a clear focus on delivering measurable commercial results for their clients.

Their close-knit core team is made up of experienced marketers across strategy, performance, creative and client services, supported by a trusted network of specialist partners. Collaboration, accountability and performance are at the heart of how they work. They are proactive, transparent and deeply invested in every client they work with.

Our client is looking for a talented Website Designer to join their growing team in a broad, hands-on creative role. This is primarily a design-led position. They need someone with a strong creative eye who understands how to turn a client brief, brand and commercial objective into a well-structured, engaging and easy-to-use website.

You will take projects through the complete website design process, including discovery, sitemap and user journey planning, wireframing and UI design, working closely with developers to bring your designs to life, and supporting testing and launch. You should be confident designing in Figma, with a strong understanding of WordPress, Elementor and WooCommerce, so that you can design with these platforms' capabilities and constraints in mind. Familiarity with Shopify would also be valuable, particularly for ecommerce projects, as the client generally leans towards Shopify builds due to the stability and built-in features of the platform.

The role requires someone who understands that good website design is not only about how a page looks. You will need to consider user experience, accessibility, mobile responsiveness, conversion rate optimisation, performance, SEO requirements and the wider commercial purpose of each website.

Alongside website projects, you will use your design skills to support the wider agency with creative requirements such as paid social advertising, organic social media graphics, email designs, presentation materials, brochures, reports, signage and other digital or print collateral.

You will work closely with the Directors, Client Services team, SEO team, Performance Marketing team, developers, content specialists and clients. Depending on the project, you may contribute during client meetings, present design concepts, explain your recommendations and respond constructively to feedback.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys variety, wants ownership of their work and is equally comfortable thinking creatively and considering the practicalities of how a design will be built. It offers the opportunity to help shape the agency's website offering, improve internal processes and become an important part of the team as their web and creative workload grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Website Design: Create professional, engaging website concepts, wireframes and responsive page designs in Figma
  • Design for Development: Design with WordPress, Elementor, WooCommerce and Shopify capabilities and constraints in mind, working closely with developers to ensure designs translate accurately into build
  • UX, UI & CRO: Plan clear user journeys, navigation, content hierarchy and calls to action, with a focus on usability, accessibility and conversion performance
  • End-to-End Project Delivery: Support website projects from discovery and planning through to design handover, testing, launch and ongoing improvements
  • Ecommerce: Design effective product, collection, basket, checkout and account journeys
  • Landing Pages: Design campaign landing pages aligned with paid media messaging, audiences, tracking and conversion goals
  • Design Quality Assurance: Review built websites against approved designs to ensure they are accurately implemented, responsive and true to the original concept
  • SEO & Tracking Collaboration: Work with the SEO and Performance Marketing teams and developers to ensure site structures, metadata and page layouts support tracking, forms and integrations
  • Creative Design: Produce assets for social media, digital advertising, email marketing, presentations, proposals and other marketing activities
  • Print Design: Create brochures, flyers, signage, reports and other print collateral, preparing files correctly for professional production
  • Client & Team Collaboration: Gather requirements, present concepts, respond constructively to feedback and communicate progress clearly
  • Process Improvement: Help improve the agency's design, quality assurance and website launch processes
  • New Business Support: Contribute to website audits, creative concepts, proposals, pitches and project scoping where required
About You
  • Design-Led: You are a strong website designer with an excellent eye for layout, typography, spacing, colour, imagery and brand consistency
  • Strong Portfolio: You can demonstrate high-quality website design work across a range of brands, sectors and project types
  • Platform Awareness: You are confident designing in Figma, with a solid understanding of WordPress and Elementor, and familiarity with WooCommerce, Shopify or another established e-commerce platform, so your designs are practical and buildable. Note: for ecommerce websites, they generally lean towards Shopify builds due to the stability and built-in features of the platform
  • Broader Creative Skills: You are comfortable creating digital and print collateral using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • UX & Commercial Awareness: You understand how design, usability, content hierarchy and calls to action influence leads, sales and wider business performance
  • Technical Understanding: You have a working knowledge of responsive design, website performance, accessibility, SEO fundamentals and how websites are built, so you can collaborate effectively with developers
  • Organised & Reliable: You can manage multiple projects, deadlines and rounds of feedback while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Strong Communicator: You can explain creative decisions clearly to clients and colleagues without unnecessary jargon
  • Proactive & Collaborative: You are comfortable taking ownership in a remote environment while working closely with specialists across development, SEO, paid media, content and client services
  • Agency Experience: Previous experience within a digital, creative or marketing agency would be highly beneficial
  • Eager to Develop: You keep up with new design trends, platforms, AI tools and technologies, and actively look for ways to improve your work and your processes
What's On Offer
  • Remote, full-time role within a growing UK-based digital agency
  • 25 days' holiday plus UK bank holidays and an additional day off for your birthday
  • A varied position combining website design and wider creative work
  • Ownership of projects from the initial idea through to launch and ongoing improvement
  • The opportunity to work across B2B, B2C, lead-generation and ecommerce clients
  • Support from experienced specialists across development, SEO, paid media, content and client services
  • Access to internal and external training opportunities
  • Software subscriptions covered (e.g. Figma, Adobe CC)
  • Genuine progression opportunities as the website and creative offering grows
  • The opportunity to shape web design processes, creative standards and future team structure
